Journalist star of Kandahar makes a documentary sequel TORONTO - Nelofer Pazira, the journalist who made such a profound impression with her docudrama Kandahar, returned to Afghanistan last July to see how her native country had changed after the American war on terror. The result, Return to Kandahar, premieres on CBC-TV Thursday, March 27. Pazira's journey was motivated by a desire to find a childhood friend somewhere in that smashed and broken land. She joins forces with producer-director Paul Jay for this sequel of sorts. The first film, meanwhile, will be aired on CBC-TV on Monday, March 24. In Kandahar, written and directed by Iranian Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Pazira, who now lives in Canada, starred as Nafas, a refugee who leaves Canada to try to get back into Afghanistan to find her sister. The fictional story was a thinly veiled version of Pazira's own experiences and earned a lot of attention following September 11th. |
